Have We Got It All?

Have We Got It All?

Sometimes, we feel so confident in ourselves that we think, “Yes, I can do it. I’ve got this.” But really—have we got it all? At other times, we prepare diligently, yet doubt still creeps in: “I don’t think I’ve got it.”

But both of these mindsets miss the point of what God expects from us. The Bible says:

The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the Lord. - Proverbs 21:31(NIV)

This verse reminds us of two important truths:

1. Not doing our best, yet still expecting victory

The verse begins with, “The horse is made ready for the day of battle.” That’s our responsibility.
We are called to do our part—study for the test, put in the effort, give our best. But the outcome? That “rests with the Lord.” We cannot neglect our role and still expect success.

2. Doing our best, yet not seeing victory

Yes, this is painful. The frustration is real. But God knows what we do not know. Sometimes, He is molding us into stronger vessels through trials. Other times, He may be teaching us dependence, reminding us that “victory rests with the Lord.”

The deeper question is this:

  • Are we drawing closer to God because we want victory?

  • Or are we drawing closer to God in spite of failure?

At first glance, both scenarios look similar—we are “being closer to God.” But the intention makes all the difference. In the first case, our love for God may fade with every disappointment. In the second, our love for Him remains steady regardless of the outcome. These two cannot be compared—they are as different as apples and oranges.

A Little of My Experience

When I face rejection, when plans collapse after raising my hopes, I often imagine God whispering to me:

“Not you, but Me. I have blessings stored for you. You will receive them when the time is right. But remember—you will have them because of Me, not because of you.”

So, Have We Got It All? God’s answer is simple:

NOT YOU, BUT ME.
