The major shift

"Why do you want to go to heaven?"

This question changed my whole perspective. It made an impact on the way I see things. I can think of three major reasons to go to heaven.
  1. I do not want to go to hell.
Well this was my reason. I was so scared of going to hell so I thought I will do whatever it takes to go to heaven. But if you deep dive into this reason, the
    major focus here is ME.
'I' do not want to get hurt. I stands tall here.
  2. I want to go to heaven.
This would have been my second best answer. I love the description of heaven so much and would love to see all the beautiful things and enjoy the "happily forever" life. But if you take a deep dive again, the
major focus here is ME again.
    'I' stands equally tall here.
  3. I want to be with God.
If this is the answer, well.. heaven and hell does not matter at all. Heaven is just a gift and hell merely a punishment. But what I see, is GOD and not the gifts or the punishment he gives. I want to do good because it is what GOD likes and not because I want to go to heaven or do not want to go to hell.
The one and only focus here is 'GOD' alone.
This revelation changed everything. Suddenly I was not scared at all but had a heart full of love for the LORD. Imagine you are a parent who is about to return home after a long trip, how would you feel if your kid is expecting your gift or is scared of your punishment? Would you rather not want your kid to run into you and is happy just to see you?

A mere change in perspective, but a major shift in the intentions.

The LORD looks at the heart - I Samuel 16:7
