The Beatitudes - 1

 "The Beatitudes" Many of us know these by heart. But what does it really mean? I, for one, did not know or did not give it a thought until now. I am writing this blog as I dive deep into these verses.

Let's split the verse into two: "What should I do?" and "What will I get?". I like to concentrate on the former, and the latter is a gift which will follow. So what is expected of me is what I would like to know better.

   Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. - Matthew 5 : 3

After some research, found out that poor in spirit means "Humility". What is humility?

Humilitythe quality of not thinking that you are better than other people;

I would love to be humble, but there is really a thin line between

PRIDE . HUMILITY . INFERIORITY

Often, I do find myself swaying from the one end to the other. Sometimes it happens in a matter of minutes 😊

For example, when I first became a mom, I wanted to be "THE BEST MOM". Somewhere down the lane, I felt like I am "THE WORST MOM". Now I just want to be "A NORMAL MOM".

"A" is better than "THE", at least for me, in this ☝. Parenting is Hard with a capital H. But when I think about it, BEST and WORST happen only when I compare myself with others right? If I just mind my own business, the comparison would not have happened.

How to tackle Pride?

If we think about Jesus and how humble he was when he came into the world, we would know how vain our pride is. Whatever I have is from God. Who am I to be proud of it? I love this verse which sums it all

Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. - I Corinthians 1:25

How to tackle Inferiority?

Sometimes it's ok to feel weak. Sometimes it's ok to feel that you couldn't do it. But it is always good to remember that with a little help from God, we can do it. The Bible says

I can do all this through him who gives me strength. - Phillipians 4:13

 If we think we are weak, the Bible says

My grace, is sufficient for you, for my power, is made perfect in weakness.. - 2 Corinthians 12:9

We may be weak, but He is not. We can do everything through Him who gives us the strength. As for thinking we are superior to others, if we can do it, so can they. So the moral of this post is "Do whatever you are doing with God's strength without comparing yourself to others"
